Overview:
The Heartland Initiative's Bioenergy and Water Resources issue team (BWR) is sponsoring programs that integrate soil management, agricultural water management and conservation.
Goals and Objectives:
The
goal
of the BWR team is to manage ecosystems facing expanding bioenergy development to protect water quality and quantity.
The
objectives
are to e
nable educators, agency and independent advisors to better assist producers...
In reducing or managing the conversion of CRP and other marginal cropland to grain production to minimize runoff losses.
In efficient nutrient management for water quality protection in ecologically intensive crop production systems, especially those producing bioenergy feedstocks.
To protect water quality and quantity through optimum irrigation and rain-fed water management.
And to:
Enhance awareness of natural resource managers and advisors in current and evolving bioenergy production issues including on-farm fuel production energy efficiency.
