Title:
Evaluation Report for Heartland Initiative Animal Manure Management and Nutrient and Pesticide Management Teams, 2004-2008
Authors:
Jean C. Eells
Summary:
The report evaluates outcomes from the activities of the Heartland Animal Manure Management (AMM) and Nutrient and Pesticide Management (NPM) issue teams, during the period of 2004 through 2008. The research used an appreciative inquiry model to focus on what participants thought had worked well toward meeting Heartland's regional and issue-specific objectives. The evaluation is designed to identify what individual participants view as successful results of Heartland AMM and NPM projects. Subjects were specifically asked to reflect on how their own approaches to animal manure handling and nutrient and pesticide practices had changed as the result of their participation in AMM and NPM team events. The evaluation captured strong statements indicating the Heartland project had achieved objectives as stated in its 2006 logic model, resulting in:
- stronger interagency working relationships;
- realistic and effective water quality regulations;
- an infrastructure of competent service providers and community development professionals who can assist producers and watershed communities to meet their environmental, regulatory and economic objectives.
