Managing Manure P to Protect Water Quality
Title:
Managing Manure P to Protect Water Quality
Authors:
John A. Lory
Summary:
Manure is an excellent phosphorus fertilizer and can be used to meet the phosphorus needs of the crop. Application of manure according to nitrogen needs often results in over-application of phosphorus. Excess phosphorus in runoff into streams, wetlands, and lakes will reduce water quality. Minimizing runoff potential on high-P soils can reduce the amount of P entering surface water.
